About some Pokemon memories
I took this photo on a Pokemon Con on 14th January of this year called Pokemon Day, the first Pokemon related big event realized on Chile with videogame tournaments, cosplay, merchandising, contests and other things. I went with my brother Domingo (but he left the place one hour after we arrived because he needed to went to the train station). One of the stands of the event had a lot of decks of the Pokemon Trading Card Game, some of them was of the older collections (the left-sided ones) and another was newer (the right-sided ones). I like this photo because, as I said, have a mix of cards generations, some special editions and a lot of memories I have about the game.
When I was little I loved Pokemon, with my brother played the videogames, watched the TV show and played the Trading Card Game (or TCG). I don't remember if it was on 2002 or 2003 when we saw the first Pokemon TCG Deck on sale, we bought it and played until my mother saw us with the cards, she got angry because she thought TCG was a lost of time and money but, with the pass of the years, she give up with that idea (or maybe not, sometimes she says that). We played a lot of times, participated on little championships of Osorno and bought a lot of cards for create new decks but one day my brother finish school, left the home and started to study on Santiago. I was alone and lost the motivation to play because I don't find people who play that TCG (I knew people who played Raw Deal TCG, another cards I played with my brother, and I played with them).
On 2008 I finish school, came to Santiago and my brother lived with me and my mother again, however with all my homeworks and a little bit of lazyness I don't played anymore. Now I'll try to come back to the game because we found a lot of cards so I have to create a new deck, I want to play Pokemon TCG again (maybe with the decks of the Con I got some motivation xD), for other side, my brother and my boyfriend (another pokemon fan, he is like a human pokedex) are waiting for me to play.
A funny thing about the photo was my brother and I wanted to buy some decks, I wanted one of the older editions (The Lock Down theme deck) and my brother one of the new ones. The special editions, as we expected, was expensive but we got surprised when the saleman said us that the old decks price was $12.000 chilean pesos. Quickly our plains of buying cards vanished, we don't have much money and...
COME ON! Back in my days that deck's price was $9.900 chilean pesos!
Maybe that the famous thing called "The nostalgia price"...

I remember when Pokemon TCG was the main topic in school, but I never could play with. My mom didn't like it. Those precious time when decks were cheap and you could exchange cards with friends c':
ReplyDeleteyeah, those was great times... but in January I found cards on a cheat price (12 cards package for $1000 chilean pesos). So there's a light yet! XD
DeleteIn my school Pokemon TCG wasn't popular, my classmates (all women) don't liked it so I was the only one who played. With Raw Deal, Magic and Yu-Gi-Oh TCG was the same story.
I don't know anything about Pokemon, only remember my school days, because in my class obviously followed this cartoons...
ReplyDeleteI met a girl who don't knew anything about Pokemon too... but, in her case, if you talked about the game or the serie she got mad xD
Deletewow, i used to play pkmn cards too, my deck was made by water and fight/earth/rock type, and i still have my 33 star cards in a cardbook organized by type... really cool memories.
ReplyDeleteI had a water deck (was the Misty themed deck) and other one with normal and fight/rock/ground type. I want a electric deck but I don't have enough energy card of that kind so I think I'll do a leaf one (maybe...).
DeleteI want more cards but are a little expensive and the new ones are kinda weird, basic pokemon with a lot of HP and powerful attack with low energy cost... It's like "shoot-kill-love me" XD
Sometimes I got a similar feeling with Magic cards. I say I'm going to play again (at least by computer) but never happens. Is good to keep the memories, but is hard to have the same feeling as TCG's golden ages (2001-2005).
ReplyDeleteThat's because the game rules changed... for example Raw Deal changed it gameplay a lot and the players got confused and mad with the new rules so the TCG begun to decrease it quality (the old rules were easier and you don't needed to have a lot of kinds of cards for a good deck).
DeleteBut the other reason maybe can be us, that kind of desmotivation to restart the game or the new responsabilities in our lives... however, at least one or two times, we can play again... I remember when we played Magic cards 3 years ago and I lost XD but it was funny because I remembered old times.
